Happy Halloween!!

Sophie is one goofy little girl!!

She could make anyone smile! Her sense of humor is contagious!

I'm never in a bad mood for long when Sophie is around...

When it comes to Halloween, sometimes Sophie and I disagree. I think Halloween should be about scary, creepie or even funny costumes. She always seems to lean toward super hero's or something of that sort.....we do both agree that Halloween is not for a "princess" or a "fairy" or any girly-girl costumes...
We shopped around trying to come up with a funny idea....Sophie spotted the boxing gloves at the Family Dollar store. Those were our starting point. We ended up having to only spend a couple of dollars on a headband and another dollar on a plain white t-shirt. The rest was things we had and our imaginations! Yes, we had the wig and those giant blue shorts!!

She was one tough looking boxer...with a 5 o'clock shadow that Sophie insisted she have instead of the black eye that I said she should have. What the heck would she have a black eye for...she knows how to guard the money-maker, that sweet face of hers!
Halloween is definetly worth dressing up for...tricks or treats!

Our Recent Company...

My sister Jenn and her sweet little boy "Punchy" came to visit from Wisconsin. We had the pleasure of them staying with us and Mark captured photos of his little bubble bath in our kitchen sink!
We also took one of him wearing his new Yooper style hat!
Michael is growing so quickly, changing every second!

WE can't wait for his next visit!!

Week Three....Complete

So I've completed week three of my college experience...
it's getting tougher now. Trying to balance homework and housework and the kids and meals and Mark...
I'm learning my schedule still and have to figure out what that priority thing is all about. I'd like to master some great easy to prepare meals that don't taste like they came out of a box.

It will get easier as I get more organized. That is my goal for this weekend...GET ORGANIZED JILL...quit being such a lazy....

Well I included this picture since it's the current background for my new computer. It makes me smile for two reasons:
1. I love everyone in the photo
2. I love Italian food and this guy really knows his stuff

Here's to a productive weekend!
I will post new pictures of Trevor now that his football season has started. Funny how when I first started our blog he was starting his 7th grade season! Wow!

Back to SCHOOL

oh boy...I'm on my second week of school and learning once again how to balance it all.
The kids start school next week so I picture the three of us seated around the dining room table, working on homework and eating Little Caesar's pizza.

Mark promises me a home-cooked meal at least one of the nights that I have night class!
I will keep you posted as to how that turns out. He's pretty good at making eggs and his pancakes are melt-in-your-mouth good!

Hopefully I can post a photo of Trevor and Sophie with first day of school smiles!!

Reunited and it feels so good...

What a fun weekend! Mark and I joined my classmates for a stroll down memory lane..or should I say a float down the Portage canal...

We celebrated our 21st reunion with dinner at the DT followed by a lovely cruise aboard the Keweenaw Star.

It was great to catch up with classmates and share old stories while learning what's new as well.

The years keep passing us by but we still look the same as we were in high school, or at least we all act the same!

Go Gremlins! "Hail..hail the orange and black..."

Goofy For Sure....Trevor at his best!

"Let me entertain you...let me make you smile..."

Sophie Turns 9!!!

Sophie turned 9 years old on June 28, 2009!!

Our little millenium baby!

We had a fun little party with her at Grandma Dorothy's since Aunt Jenny and little Michael were visiting from Wisconsin.

She's excited to have an outdoor camping/swimming/silly girl party later this summer!

Yeah Beans and Punchy!!

We had such a great visit with my sister Jennifer and her sweet little boy Michael (aka: Punchy) recently! He is the most well-behaved, mild-mannered, little guy! Such a sparkling personality like his mother...or quite possibly his Aunty Jill! :D

We can't wait for their next visit!

The other day Trevor, Sophie and I took a hike along the Nara Nature Trails in Houghton
We stopped along the way and I captured this video. Trevor thought I was taking his picture so he kept smiling...
It makes me laugh and it will be something I will tease him about constantly.
If you listen carefully you can hear how peaceful it was there that day...birds chirping, frogs croaking...

Wow the weather has been great lately. I'm sure most people are loving the Copper Country now since it seems like summer has finally arrived.

I look forward to escaping to Great Sand Bay and playing in Lake Superior with the kids and maybe even Mark!

Happy Memorial Day!
A day of memorial..a day of remembering and celebrating our heroes fallen, fighting, or otherwise...
Today we remember William C. Judnich, father, husband, serviceman, patriot!
We love you Dad, Grandpa Bill, Sweet William!!

I added this poem I found about the tradition of wearing the red poppy in honor of our veterans.

"In Flanders Fields"
By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

"This is not your fathers Star Trek!!"

Our favorite dish!

Did you say Yummy?
I had to tease my sister Jennifer with this...she loves my cajun chicken pasta just as much as we do.
I hope that one day it will convince her to move closer so that I could make it for her on a regular basis!

Jenn...just so you know...
It tastes a million times better than it looks!
Love you!!

April Showers Bring May Flowers?

So what do you get when the "showers" in April are actually snow showers...
I had to take a picture of the view from our porch.
Notice the cute snowman I made on top of our grill just to cheer Mark up?
Call me crazy, go ahead, I love snow any month of the year!

A great article my brother Tony wrote

I love this article I read recently written by my brother Tony who lives in Florida. His writing is excellent! Please read!

By Tony Judnich
Judnich@hometownnewsol.com
There are countless reasons why people shell out big bucks to enjoy Major League Baseball games at ballparks around the country.
Here are some of mine.
Growing up in the Detroit area, I joined in the annual ritual of rooting for the Detroit Tigers, one of pro baseball's oldest teams. Like many other Tiger fans, I would watch the games on TV while tuning into AM radio station WJR to hear Hall of Fame announcer Ernie Harwell describe the action.
A Georgia native, Ernie spoke in warm, relaxed tones, as if he was talking to an old friend between sips of sweet tea on a wood porch.
After an opposing batter struck out looking, Ernie often would say the player "stood there like the house on the side of the road and watched that one go by."
How humiliating for that particular player. But how enjoyable for the Tiger fan tuning in.
Ernie and the Tigers went with me when my family and I moved more than 500 miles from the Detroit area to northern Michigan.
I was 12 years old and, for a while, I felt out of place in my new, rural surroundings. To capture a bit of home, I tuned into the local AM station that delivered Ernie's voice.
It was 1984. I recorded the Tigers' games on homemade scorecards, and sometimes I would close my eyes while listening to ballpark sounds on the radio: endless chatter, like a far-off stream spilling over rocks; vendors announcing their wares; and what sounded like boos, but were actually fans calling the first name of my favorite Tiger, second baseman Lou Whitaker.
These sounds comforted me, and the Tigers, who at one point were 35-5, provided numerous thrills on their way to winning the 1984 World Series.
Besides uplifting Detroit out of its blue-collar doldrums, the team also made an indelible impression on a boy who could not resist becoming a die-hard baseball fan.
Later, I would be fortunate to enjoy regular-season pro baseball games back in Detroit, as well as in Chicago, Boston, Anaheim, Calif., and other cities, and spring-training games in various towns. It is always fun to see a city's skyline beyond a stadium's centerfield on TV and then go to that city and stadium in person.
Today, I am lucky because just a short drive from home is Space Coast Stadium in Viera, the spring training home of the Washington Nationals.
At a recent game between the Nationals and the Tigers, I sat behind the Tigers' dugout and next to a Melbourne Beach resident who wore a University of Michigan hat.
"Are you a Michigander?" the man asked amiably.
Later, he mentioned another cherished Ernie Harwell phrase.
After a fan snatched a foul ball that drifted into the stands, Ernie sometimes would say, "A man from (insert the name of any town here) caught that one."
As a boy, I used to wonder, "How does he know where the person who caught the ball is from?"
He doesn't, someone would tell me.
But it didn't matter. I was hooked onto something priceless.
